A New Beginning for me…

Adding texture and UV protection to a portrait of E.Comp.Philip Hall

During the Covid pandemic, I made the decision to do something different. I have been photographing Provincial teams at annual meeting for some years. Just before the crisis struck I had taken a portrait of E.Comp.Phil Hall, our Most Excellent Grand Superintendent in the Holy Royal Arch in Warwickshire. I had him sitting on an ordinary chair against a chromakey background. I later added an ornate throne and used a technique of moving pixels around with an art brush of my own creation in Photoshop. Once the opportunity arose I asked my friends at Permajet to print it out for me on stunning Mercury Canvas at 70cms x 50cms. But that’s not the end of the story. The inks used in the printing are archival ensuring a longevity of at least a century. Finally, to add to that longevity, I apply many coats of acrylic medium that has an active UV agent to prevent fading and enhance the textures that I have ‘built in’ to the art piece. Et Voila! A piece of photographic art to hang in our Masonic Halls to celebrate a wonderful presidency!
